The 2017 Toyota Prius and RAV4 Hybrid have just been named Canadian Green Car of the Year and Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year, respectively. The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) made the announcement during the opening ceremony of the 2017 Vancouver Auto Show.

The 60+ auto journalists that were part of the jury picked the Toyota Prius over the Kia Optima Hybrid and Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid.

"Toyota is committed to maintaining its leadership position in designing, engineering and building environmentally advanced vehicles that meet the many demands of today's drivers, which is why the 2017 Prius sets new standards for efficiency and emissions even as it provides owners with more style and driving fun," said Cyril Dimitris, Vice-President, Toyota Canada Inc. "We're delighted that members of AJAC agree, and thank them for this important award."

Meanwhile, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid edged out the Subaru Forester (AJAC’s Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year) and Mazda CX-9.

"The RAV4 Hybrid combines Toyota's top-selling compact utility vehicle in Canada with the fuel efficiency and low emissions of the world's most proven hybrid powertrain—and the result is a win for drivers, for communities, and for the planet," added Dimitris.

Earlier this year, Toyota was voted the most trusted brand for hybrid vehicles by consumers for the seventh consecutive year according to a survey by Reader’s Digest.
